Raghav (12 years old) and Kalpana (8 years old) know
each other since childhood but they are not fond of each other though they
study in the same school where Raghav is in the seventh standard and Kalpana is
in the third standard. They always ignore each other and Kalpana always finds
Raghav too arrogant and Raghav find Kalpana a fool.
Raghav is quarelling with some boys and Kalpana
passes by and scolds Raghav for his behavior.
Raghav: What's your problem Kalpana? Why are you
interefering in every matter? Just mind your own business.
Kalpana: I am minding my own business. These boys are
from my school and you are quarelling with them for what? They only said that
you always come late to school and bunk school. What's wrong in that?
Raghav: I bunk school or not, that is not everyone's
problem. These boys are saying that my father has not taught me manners and
that' not right. I cannot tolerate anything against my dad, you got that.
Kalpana: They said it in a wrong way but they were
right as you are a spoiled brat and your dad who is so noble always scols you
for that reason. You are not interested in anything but yourself.
Raghav: Look Kalpana. I am just talking to you nicely
because you are my dad's friend's daughter so be in your limits.
Kalpana: Oh really. This is the way you talk nicely.
Lol! I think you are then the best behaved boy in the entire college. (She
starts laughing and leaves)
The other boys also laugh at Raghav and leave. Raghav
keeps looking at them and Kalpana with anger in his eyes and goes home.
After few days, Rajeev falls sick and Kalpana remains
at home to look after him and does not go to school.
Kalpana: Dad, what happened to you. Why are you so
weak? (Shs starts crying)
Rajeev: Kalpu beta. Don't worry. You know your dad is
strong and my baby also is strong na. You always laugh and do mischeif na so go
and play with your toys now. I want to see you happy and then your dad will
become well soon.
Vikram (Raghav's dad) comes in and feels bad to see
Rajeev in this state. While Kalpana is playing outside with her toys, Vikram
stays beside Rajeev the whole day.
Rajeev: Vikram I was feeling weak since days and
never told Kalpana anything about my sickness. I have brain cancer and have
only a month left to live. You and your wife Gauri bhabi told me that you both
want Kalpana to be your daughter-in-law. Now Gauri bhabi is not alive and I
will also die soon. Will you accept my daughter Kalpana as your DIL?
Vikram: Why are you talking about death Rajeev?
Nothing will get wrong with you and now we have to fight a lot ike before and
see our children grow big and then get them married also. Why you are saying
that you will not live? Gauri left me and went and now you also want to leave
me and go?
Rajeev: No Vikram. Destiny is not with me and my time
has come to go to Sheetal (Kalpana's mom). I can see her in my dreams calling
out my name but I don't want my daughter to live here alone. I will not get to
see her grow big and so want you to accept her as your DIL before I die.
Vikram: I will definitely accept her but now you need
to take care of your health and you are going nowhere and please stop talking
about death now.
After few days, Rajeev's condition worsens and Vikram
and Sunaina keep visiting Rajeev and look after Kalpana while Kalpana does not
know that Rajeev is going to die soon. Rajeev tells Kalpana that he is going to
go for a job soon in the city and so will not be with her after few days and
while Kalpana starts crying and forcing her dad to take her too with him, he
keeps telling Kalpana that she is a brave girl and so she needs to stay with
Vikram who will look after her in his absence.
Rajeev: Vikram I have very less time left and
Doctor's also have given up hope. They say that I have very few days to live.
Please make Kalpana your DIL. I want t see her getting married to Raghav before
I close my eyes.
Vikram: I know Rajeev and I have always considered
Kalpana as my daughter-in-law but I don't believe in child marriage even though
many people in this village have done the same. I am the sarpanch here and for
me Raghav and Kalpana both are kids and getting them married at this age is not
right. They have a right to live their childhood freely. Even though others in
the village believe in this, I have never stopped them though I oppose it as
the families here are all happy with their decision but soon the Government
will also make it an offence to get children married.
Rajeev: I know it's wrong to get kids married but I
trust you and your family. You all will keep my daughter happy and if she lives
alone here, my soul be able to rest in peace. I want to see my daughter married
before I close my eyes. Please don't say no Vikram please.
Vikram thinks in his mind to let Raghav get married
to Kalpana but he won't make the children to live as a married couple in a room
as both are small and he will give them the freedom they deserve. He will let
Kalpana study and live the life she wants too and he won't force her with this
relationship as every person got a right to choose their partner and when both
the kids grow big, Kalpana will be free to choose her life partner.
Vikram agrees to the marriage and tells Raghav that
he is only doing a small ceremony with Kalpana and Raghav as usual agrees to
his dad. Kalpana also is told the same and she too agrees.
